This course introduces key aspects of Deaf culture, community, and history through the documentary Through Deaf Eyes and related reflection activities. You’ll explore how Deaf individuals view their identities, how common hearing perceptions may differ, and how the Deaf community has organized for language rights and social change.


This course is part of the Basic Skills Companion Course series and offers valuable context to help you work more effectively with Deaf individuals and better understand the cultural and social factors that impact communication access. Optional resources provide additional opportunities to deepen your understanding.
